DPS Software is pleased to announce that Thursday 29th November 2012 saw the company receive its certificate of accreditation to the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 international standard for information security management.
ISO 27001 (to give the standard its shortened name), published by the International Organization for Standardisation, is the best practice specification that helps businesses and organisations throughout the world to develop a best-in-class Information Security Management System (ISMS).
With ISO 27001 recognised internationally as the pre-eminent information security standard, in mid-2012 DPS embarked on the project to gain accreditation in order to reinforce their credentials as a specialist hosted solution provider to legal services organisations.
The certificate also provides further evidence to both existing and potential clients that we take data security seriously, and that dpscloud is a reliable managed IT solution.
The company can be trusted as a strategic partner to move cloud strategy forward with.
DPS painstakingly put together and implemented a compliant ISMS which provided the basis for accreditation. This involved the development of a range of policies and working procedures and the implementation of them within the business. The work also necessitated many improvements to infrastructure and physical security at DPS sites.
Based upon the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ model, ISO 27001 is designed to encourage continual improvement within an organisation’s ISMS (Information Security Management System) and this idea has been embraced by DPS as Managing Director Osman Ismail highlights:
“This accreditation is the culmination of a lot of hard work during this year and could be seen as a badge of honour when it comes to our information security credentials. However we know it has to be much more than just another logo to add to our marketing materials; the accreditation marks a change in culture and overall operating procedure that has taken place at DPS during 2012.
“With 10 years experience behind us we knew what we were doing when it came to hosting law firms, but the work that went towards accreditation showed us we could do things better. Now holding an ISO 27001 certificate we realise this drive for improvement does not end here.”
In order to gain accreditation DPS was audited by the British Standards Institution (BSI) over a Stage 1 preliminary audit and a two day Stage 2 certification audit. The accreditation from the BSI also means DPS can display the organisation’s famous kitemark in future and Osman concludes:
“The BSI’s motto is Making Excellence a Habit. At DPS we like to think that this is a sentiment which as a company we can echo.”
