One Practice, One Database, Two Suppliers

Giving clients the sort of service that they expect these days is almost impossible without having a single database for the practice. However, the reverse is often the case as many organisations have implemented different systems and multiple databases.

Stanley Tee a medium sized firm just over 130 staff have both the Civica accounts system and DPS case management systems installed.

They have always seen the need for a fully integrated case and accounts system but never been able to achieve a truly seamless link. In fact the requirement was always that there was no real link but that both systems used the database.

The choices were stark, either give up the highly successful DPS case systems, or give up the equally successful Civica accounts system.

The launch of DPS's ONE OFFICE product offered Stanley Tee the precise solution that they needed. One Office allowed the case management to use Civica's Database that was in SQL2000 natively. What does that mean? In effect the One Office product did not keep its own client and matter databases, it used the Civica Databases. This is not integrated; this is one system from two suppliers working in harmony.

Any case data that is not in accounts is held by One Office itself still in the SQL2000 tables and drawn in automatically by One Office.

Ian Fretwell of Stanley Tee says, “We were saving time by using the DPS case system, but were wasting time by duplicating the entry of the client and matter details in our Civica Galaxy system. Not only have we saved time by not having to duplicate entries, but we have also got more accurate and updated information.

We have been very happy with both our Civica accounts and DPS Case Management. We just wanted them to work together. Previously the only way of achieving an integrated system was to buy Civica case management or DPS Accounts.”

Tim Spriggs, Sales Director, Civica Systems, said, “Civica has an extremely flexible model which allows our proven systems to be supplied fully integrated or on a modular basis. The inter-operation with DPS is a good example of our commitment to offer both flexibility and scalability in order that customers achieve business-led rather than technology-driven solutions”.

Scott Ridley, DPS Technical Director said, “Civica's Legal Accounts application is a comprehensive solution, with great SQL2000 design and we are pleased to have One Office using the database. One Office can link to any SQL2000 database and we currently have ongoing projects to link to TFB, Axxia and Elite. We hope to announce successful conclusions to all these within the next 2-3 months.”

One Office from DPS Software is the latest step in application development using the Microsoft .Net framework, giving users the power to harness and utilise the ‘Best of Breed' products in the legal software market.

Quite simply, with the DPS One Office framework, IT managers can fully integrate the DPS Case System with any SQL structured accounting system, without the need for bespoke programming while providing comprehensive case and document management facilities for all users, whether on the office LAN or WAN.
