legal aid agency-logoThe Legal Aid Agency has just released the key dates for the rollout of the new civil online system.

This roll-out will be preceded by a session of training and the sending of an introductory pack with more information on their Client and Cost Management System meant to help legal aid providers familiarise themselves with the new platform.

The online training dates are:

  • week beginning 21 October 2013 – register for the online training on the Provider Training website
  • 11 November 2013– online training to be launched for providers and counsel
  • 18 November 2013 – start of three weeks of engagement events for providers and counsel across England and Wales
  • The roll-out will be organised as follows:
  • 20 January Roll-out to civil providers (with an organisational name starting with A-F)
  • 31 March Roll-out to civil providers (with an organisation name starting with G-Z or a number)

The new Client and Cost Management System will enable you to:

– make legal aid applications and submit bills electronically

– scan and submit supporting documents electronically

– make payments in new ways- via debit or credit card, direct debit or payment reference cards.

Although these changes and new systems are primarily designed to increase efficiency at the LAA and reduce their administrative costs, for practitioners at the sharp end of the legal work it presents a new platform and way of working to adapt to. Of course a major part of this adaptation for law firms is ensuring that IT systems are optimised for working effectively with the new platform.

As a supporter of firms carrying out publicly funded work, we have committed significant development resources to keeping pace with Legal Aid Agency’s changes and ensuring our case management and billing software integrates seamlessly with the new CCMS.

Through DPS case management software and the new civil billing module you can:

  • Add key required information once into the case management system and then upload to LAA online service.
  • Auto-complete Claim 1 and Claim 1A forms.
  • Upload information and bill to the LAA from your case management system.
  • Monitor case costs in real-time and accurately anticipate certificate thresholds and limits. Never do work you may potentially not get paid for.
  • Post payments from the LAA direct to the DPS accounts package.
  • Download Certificates from CCMS when they are granted with limits set automatically
  • Use our PDF bundling tool to create paginated and indexed PDF bundles of case documents ready for electronic transmission and sharing.
  • Intelligent POA claims calulated and produced to increase cashflow.
  • Ensure that disbursments paid on a case are claimed on a case.

Now is the time to make sure your firm is equipped to deal with this future way of working. Request a FREE consultation to get started.
